More memory, is it worth it and where from?
Hi
The pooter at home is a tad slow, especially when dealing with photos etc, the lads at work reckon it would be worth chucking some more memory at it...it's currently 256mb and I've considered wazzing a 512 thingy in there too!
So, is it worth doing? If so, where would you buy from?
Cheers!
PS dunno if it helps but it has a 2.6 thing and 80gb of the other stuff

256 is the minimum requirement for XP o/s. If you have a 256 it will be slow for photo/video editing and running other programs.
If you go to www.crucial.com select your PC model and your question will be answered.

256 to 512 - good upgrade
256 to 768 - very good upgrade
I personally wouldn't put more than a gig in unless you have a specific reason like for a particular app that you know uses huge or your planning to work on huge movies or loads of photo's at one time.

Big difference - upgraded my P4 2.4 Ghz from 256M to 512M a couple of months ago - it has transformed my PC. Well worth doing. Getting decent branded memory is also worthwhile as there are differences in quality and performance. My work laptop now runs XP Pro with 768M RAM and this flies (even using a smallish mobile P4 1.4 Ghz processor)

Go for it. Its the cheapest upgrade you can do and probably the most beneficial. Ive just built new pc with 1gb and theres no reason not to as its dirt cheap at under £100 for decent branded dual channel pc3200 ddr.
Bear in mind in years gone by I paid something like £130 to upgrade 4mb to 8mb RAM in an old 486
Simon.
