PS2 - What Steering Wheel
Following on from the GT4 thread (yes I got my copy last night but unfortunately could only get about an hours play in )
I'm now thinking about getting a steering wheel controller - are they any good? Can anyone recommend any?
Cheers

Logitech Driving Force Pro, it's all you will ever need, USB so will work on your PC for GTR etc also.
(and I've had a cheapo Mad catz wheel, and Logitech Driving Force before it..... neither any comparison)

Oh, but you won't be able to use it on your lap, you will need a desk or something to clamp it to, as not only is it heavy, but the turning feedback is very strong.
And it's pricey.

Does anyone have the model down from the Pro? It looks the same as Pro version but does not have the gear selector.
Need to know if this is any good and does it need to be clamped to a surface or can this be used on your lap.

The standard driving force, with blue grips? Very good wheel, was the best out there, right up until the Pro came out.
I find they all need to be clamped to something for good results, if you are going to do something properly etc etc......

www.disking.com is where I got mine for 75.95.
Ebuyer are cheaper but have none.
If you have never used a wheel then the original DF will be pretty good but I opted for the DF Pro and it's just amazing...the Ring is a total adrenaline rush and you feel more control as you can hold your speed constant with the pedals...
Check this vid of a guy (very good driver) using a DFP 2 on the Nurb

Those lap attachments are truly awful - I once bought a Logitech DF GT3 thing, but ended up returning it cos the force feedback was too much for me, hence why i'm not sure about buying the DF Pro.
Anyway, to use the lap attachment means sitting with your legs held together, which is painful, especially on the old nads

I can wholly reccomend this:
http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/store...roductId=15219
£6, plus a bit of varnish \ stain if you require to match your decor, works rather well with the Logitech wheel and an office style chair.
(is not *perfect*, think I need to bolt some weights to the base of the legs as it is quite top heavy with the DFPro)

Works fine on PC - I am using it for GTR You can get a program to tweak it too...www.gtplanet.net has a DFP thread in the GT4 forums...ALL your Q's will be answered there
You can also turn the FF down in the game AND on the DFP so surprised it would be too strong so much so that you would take the wheel back!

That is EXACTLY the one I have and it does need some weights!! But it's only when u pull towards yourself that it can topple a bit...it's a bit of a problem in rallies tho!! lol

lol, I was thinking of cutting some notches so the wheel sits a little further back, make it better balanced, but then I'm not sure I would want it further away (and the legs are the same distance as the wheels on my chair!)
I think some weights, or maybe a flat piece of wood bolted to the bottom, may do the trick, would also give something to put the pedals on with a slight angle.
But spending time doing all that is possibly a bit anorak!
