The Nero I got with my DVD burner (V6?) does all of this, even allows you to have menus with animated backgrounds etc.

What software have you got to burn DVDs?

I've tried loads of programs(took me weeks to work out how to do it a long time ago as i didnt have anyone to help me out and nobody seemed to know but got there eventually) and i've found that "DVD santa" is by far the best and easiest avi to dvd converter available.Just start it up open the file click on convert and sit back and let it do its job.The end result is a Video TS folder that any dvd burning software will read.

There is that many different programs out there and everyone has their own opinion on whats best so you will probably get quite a few different replys recommending different programs so my advise would be to try a couple to find one you prefer.

Hope this helps

open nero smart start, select 'make your own video dvd' (it'll be in 'favourites' or 'photo and video') and follow the prompts...

Nero vision express 3 is the easiest and used the nero 6.6 engine to burn as it encodes, DVD santa is probably best though.

avi2dvd is SO easy to use, litterally 2 click and wait while it converts then just the time it takes to write to disc on nero.

Can you put more than one converted file onto one DVD (subject to space limitations obviously)? How do you arrange the Video_TS folders for the player to understand there are several distinct files on there?

Yep that makes sense, cheers. Once converted and burned to dvd, does the player recognise the two as seperate chapters so you can skip directly to the second, or does it just play continuously so you have to watch/fast fwd through the first to get to the second? If the latter, anyone know how to add chapter marks to fix this? Hope that makes sense!

If you use something like DVDShrink, you can load up 2 DVD's worth if vobs into one new DVD. They run as 2 titles, so can be started individually by your DVD player.

DivxtoDVD automatically creates chapters for you (At 5 minute intervals from what I've seen). If you get it to merge two files together then there is a slight break in the film when the dvd player makes the transition to the next part... (I think this is a bit of a pain really hence my next question!! )
Any good programs to use to join the avi files together BEFORE encoding them? Does something like virtual dub do this?? Dunk, are you the man to answer this?

I have used all the programs listed above and have found that 1) Nerovision express has lip sync probs on certain films 2) DVDSanta doesn't support some file formats 3) WinAvi didn't produce brilliant results for me (Even for things that were A1 quality)

Cheers

Nick

Assuming that you want to join 2 avi files of the same bitrate, codec etc (eg. CD1 and CD2 of the same film) then something like AVI Joiner will do the trick.

Can't say that the minor blip between files has bothered me much, but I understand that it may be irritating

Still find DivxToDVD is by far the most accurate program out there out there.

Lately, I've been fiddling with getting 2 full DVD's, retaining their full menu structure, onto one DVD+R DL with an added customised startup menu, not fun But seems to work . . . mostly. Been using DVD Remake Pro to do this if anyone fancys a go.

Is there any decent software to go from DVD to AVI? Did a Google but a lot of it was the usual marketing cr@p. Want something simple that just dumps the main DVD title into the one AVI file. Needs to be decent quality though.

Nero6 is aboout the easiest plus if you get the ultra edition you can encode it to AC3
