Photoshop is excellent but pricey, I used to use paint shop pro, which was free back then when I was young

Save some money for a book or two. They have some excellent guidance, tips and tricks in them.

I've used Photoshop from the very first version. I just can't seem to use anything else now.

photoshop is the daddy! no doubt! but depending on what u want to do.. Paintshop Pro (no not windows pain) is just as good if u just want to begginer.. Much easier to get to grips with.. and can do most of the more common things adobe does

might be worth a look

I use Photoshop CS2 (just upgraded from CS). As said elsewhere, it's the best out there by a long way. If you just want basic stuff, then PSP is ok, but the old addage "You get what you pay for" definitely applys....

CS2 is phenomenal. Been using it here for a few weeks now and it truly blows away CS which was head and shoulders above everything else when it was released.

Photoshop elements is good if you don't want to be too advanced.
