Question Formatting HD with XP

Hi,
Got loads of rubbish on pc and want to format and do new install,Used to press a key on boot up with win 98 and go from there,cant seem to do it with XP,Please could tou let me know how to get up the dos screen at boot up.

is bios configured to boot from the cd (as in the 1st in boot device priority), if so it should say press any key to boot from cd at startup. press that and away you go, it takes you through the formatting an setting up

WindowsXP wont allow you to format the fixed disk from which it booted. Obtain a Windows98 boot diskette and boot from that; you need to use FDisk. If the machine isnt configured with 'a:' as the first boot device then try pressing the 'F8' key during boot-up; this should bring up a blue and yellow screen where you can choose the first boot device.

What Mike1210 said. Boot from xp cd and you can format/partition etc.

You only need to do this if you cant boot from the XP CD.
