![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Hi all
I am doing a friend of my dads a favour and as usual it turns out to be a pita!!
I said i would install an ADSL wireless router for them but I didn't realise they had 2 macs that are not pre installed with all airport arial etc. What are my options? Are there any mac compatible usb ones?
Many Thanks
Andy

All iBooks are AirPort capable, the iBook was Apple's first AirPort equipped machine but earlier non-white/toilet seat models (800x600 screen) use the older 802.11b "PCMCIA-style" AirPort cards, not the newer 802.11b/g AirPort Extreme ones.
What model is the iMac as only the first tray loading (233/266/333MHz) machines did not have AirPort.

Aha thanks well in that case I think i will hardwire the iMac to the router as it is located near the router anyway and get the Airport part for the iBook
Many thanks again

Hi finaly managed to get time (from them!) to go round and check the equipment and their ibook but they had bust it! Anyway i checked the serial number and it shows that it was built halfway through 2003 presuming its therefore airport extreme and was going to order this card

Andy,
Doing a little digging on everymac.com it seems G3 iBooks built in '03 were still the old style AirPort, and only the G4's from around Oct/Nov onwards were AP Extreme. Go into Applications -> Utilities and open System Profiler and it should tell you the model number of the machine, it will look something like "PowerBook6,2". Post this up and we'll be able to decode it and tell you exactly what fits![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Cheers,
Alex

Trouble is they were having probs with the computer (a completely different subject but the screen was white constenly on start up!)when I went round there so no way of knowing till they fix it I suppose! oh well I knew this was going to be trouble
Thanks again for the help I may have to get back to you again, is there anyway to know if its a G3 or G4 visually?

There is normally a bar code with the serial number on and on most machines there is then a family or model number right near this. You can tell exactly what machine it is from the serial number and even the date is was made etc using n online tool available to Authiroised resllers.
