how do you covert m4a to mp3?

I take it you have iTunes and that is what created your m4a file?
If so, go to iTunes preferences click the "importing" tab and change the drop down box from AAC to MP3. Click OK.
Then find your track in iTunes right click it and choose Convert to MP3 at the bottom.
Job done.
