.. now just bare in mind 'you can't buy these in the shops'
A neighbour asked me to take a look at his PC tonight, due to 'odd bands on the screen'.
Basically, the GFX card fan couldn't get any air and after 1yr gave up the ghost, 1mm clearance from the PCI card in PCI slot 1.
If it hadn't been for the fitment, no doubt the card would of last a lot longer (9800pro).
Couldnt believe it... feel sorry my neighbour.

thats a bit crap, but then tbh have you seen the inside of a shuttle?
my gfx card is right against the case, there is literaly no space for the fan at all!
on better cards than mine (just a r9700pro) there are bigger fan housings, these generally wont fit in the case

I had that issue on a Mesh computer a few years ago. The GFX card lasted 2 weeks, so they had to replace it. The new one last 8 months, then a replacement. Then The next one last 12 months (still under the 3 yr warranty).
Then I fixed the machine instead of them....move the other PCI cards and all was fine
And the new card they gave me was a LOT faster than the old one, as the old one was no longer made

I tried to get a new rack mount monitor keyboard combo a few months back and the silly indian woman didnt understand at first and then tried to flog me a normal keyboard and 15" value monitor. WTF are these people on ?

I know a couple of people with recently bought Dell home pcs, and they have also been put together very well, and have so far proved to be very reliable.
Perhaps you have just been unlucky (or we've been lucky)...

Sorry, didn't even remember posting this, post pub comments.
But, hey I stand by the bad fitment causing the failure. GPU cards can survive high temps for quite a while, but if they are running higher than normal temps they will fail sooner - which is what I would say happened to my neighbour. But hey, its all opinion I guess.
LOL @ Steve, dual opterons at home, nutter.

I guess your milage may vary but atm, we are running at a failure a week on the dells. These are quite expensive machines also.
Also there was an interesting articale a few weeks ago in one of the online IT mags describing the building of a laptop. Was quite interesting because Dell and other manufacturers subcontract the work to tiawan facilities, who then may subcontract it several times and usually ends up bieng made in china at very small cost by unskilled labour. This I think may be the reason why the quality isnt what it used to be. However Dell do finish them in Ireland, which is at least better than a 100% foriegn build.
