Friend has purchased Belkin router. He is on ADSL and I've been round to help him set it up without luck.
Settings i'm using.
username: - all lower case with domain suffix e.g. username@aol.com
encapsulation - VUMUX
MTU - 1400
Connection type - PPPoE (tried A as well though AOL live chat fella said to use E)
the router has a telephone symbol which flashes then stays lit but there is also a world symbol that does not come on (assume this is connected). The admin page shows NOT CONNECTED also.
Any ideas?
edited to say that the username I'm using is a screen name that does not have @aol.com on it - if that makes a difference?

Ripped from http://www-stg.aolsvc.co.uk/help/Speed545.htm
have you got the vpi = 0 vci =38
should be PPPoA
you need the username@aol.com (screen name needs 18+ access)
password needs to be in lower case
This might be relevant too

vpi/vci is as you stated. Will check the screen name. I asssume you can connect to the router without using aol software. At this stage I'm just trying to get the router config to report a connection and havent tried ie.

yes it needs the @aol.com
login to router & enter
username@aol.com
password
PPPoE
iirc the rest left as default.
if not all the lights are green check cat5 cable/power off router
Check the status in admin page - connect/disconnect then try rebooting the router
dont need aol software (you do if you want to use keywords) just use normal IE.
