Default Laptop Battery Monitor (XP)

Hello all,

Simple little problem here, but can solve it. My 5 week old laptop has decided to HIDE the power/charging/battery left indicator from the taskbar. Ive been into power options, the tick is there to enable it, tried disabling, re-enabling/re-booting, no show. It appears when I plug in the laptop to AC, just showing charging/on AC power. Strange. Other option is to find a good, third party utility to show battery power left??? Any help much appreciated.

One thing to try...

Right-click the task bar and choose Properties
On the Taskbar tab, have a look under "Hide inactive icons" and click the "Customize..." button to see if it has been set to hidden.

Something else I have noticed, when in the customise menu option, the "Charging (99%)" icon is under "past" items, and not "current" items................ I have tried and tried selecting "Always Show". Zilch, still no icon......

Question

Another clutch at a straw...

Can you go into the BIOS and check whether Advanced Power Mode (APM) or other such similar setting is still enabled?

Maybe the BIOS isn't telling the OS anything about the battery, so it has nothing to display (apart from AC connected).

Proby,

i did a bit of digging about on the Interweb last night, and found the following - unfortunately Scoobynet was very poorly at the time

Anyway, back now, so you could try (temporarily) disabling (some of) your Networking Services as a test - see PowWeb

Boomer, you star!!! Great information through that link. Many people have suffered my problem. It was actually resolved by "turning off" the networking services in Add/remove components!!!!! Don't ask me why it causes a conflict, it just does. The networking services are only apparently for simple TCP/IP services and used to enable basic TCP/IP services like chargen and echo and stuff. Will trial it to see how it goes, but seems to have worked. Once again thanks very much!
