Default Scanner packed up

Tells me when I open the software package that an unexpected error occured and the aplication will close.
then says to check log file which to me is about as much help as the first sentence. :

Update of configurationFile failed
++++ PROBLEM DESCRIPTION +++++
++++ SAT ERROR ID: An unexpected error has occured.
++++ SAT ERROR ID: The application is unable to recover and will close.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Platform initialization failed

Any idea's on what might be wrong before I go hunting for a new scanner.
This is / was a really good scsi one, 9800 dpi

I've dowloaded and re-installed the software package from Agfa just in case my copy had got corrupted and it's the same, so wasn't that.

It could still be the software. The reinstall might not have worked properly. Best to try it on another machine, or just get a new one anyway

Ummm... You havn't by chance moved the scanner recently and knocked the SCSI ID number it was using by knocking the selector switch? Or is the SCSI terminator come loose? Is this the only SCSI Equipment connected up to the Host controller? Is the Host controller seated properly. Is everything showing in the 'Device Manager' ?
A few things to try.
