Default ADSL2+ Bedding in time

I set up my new connection tonight, should I leave it for a while to settle in or start calling support. HTTP access is lightning fast but only up for a few seconds, other protocols are on and off.

It's a Netgear router and seems pretty busy.

Any advice appreciated.

Is ADSLMAX the same thing as ADSL2+? If so 10 days before it settles apparently..

ADSLMAX is a Rate Adaptive service - the actual upload and download speeds are dependent on the condition of the telephone line and other external factors such as electrical interference and atmospheric conditions.

During the initial 10 days after installation the service will disconnect and reconnect as it attempts to find a 'Maximum Stable Rate' or MSR. The MSR is determined by BT equipment and is the highest upload and download speed at which the ADSLMAX service is likely to be most reliable. Once the MSR is determined, the upload and download speeds may fluctuate 30% above or below the MSR. This is within BT's specifications.

It's different, but I'm guessing the same sort of thing applies as my connection has been up to 24meg and down to 2meg then back again, bit of a yo yo.

Just out of a matter of interest. How do you go about getting ADSL2+? I take it this is a Business type connection? As BT only advertise ADSL Max (8Mb).

UKonline not sure if it's publicly available, I have a test line for work. It's holding steady at 11meg now.

Jack, ditch the Netgear (Supplied by UKO I assume) and go for something from the Billion 7402xxx range. It has been proven by many (Including me) to be a far superior Router to the Netgear with faster download speeds and way longer uptimes.

Let me know if you need futher details, as for bedding in time...Hmm, no is my answer none is needed nor have I ever heard it mentioned anywhere else before...

I'm pulling out of the contract I have with UK online.. biggest pile of ****e ever

Their customer service is a waste of time, it sometimes rings so long that the call drops off

You'll never get the router to work properly, if you do your very lucky.

have a read HERE (40 pages worth) and feel part of a growing community of pissed of people

I''ve tried every firmware in every configuration and it drops constantly, some times every couple of minute other times it will last maybe a day

I used the original Netgear router for a day and wasn't very happy. I recieved a new one to test yesterday, same box but different firmware and UKOnline specific settings and it's a lot better, dropped out once last night... not that that's brilliant.

Steady 16000-17000 Downstream and 766 upstream now with 38.5db Line Attenuation and 5.9db Noise margin Downstream

I'll look into the Billion router, will try to get one on test.

I hear the customer support is better since the Sky purchace, no trouble getting through for me and I don't have a special number, bloke yesterday even knew what he was talking about.

Hope you are using the freephone number to phone them?
Don't be fooled by the UKO specific settings, unless they have changed it recently there is no difference at all...

It took around 10 days for my upgrade to settle down but speeds are pretty variable. Seems I should be able to get 4mb (that's the speed my router connects at) but I'm anything from 1.3mb to 4mb. Previous to the upgrade I was on a 2mb connection and the speed was always at the max (I'm with Nildram).

I'd say that 70% of the time I'm above the 2mb rate I was at previously but it's disappointing that 30% of the time I'm getting a slower speed. God knows why the contention on the line now seems different that it was on the previous service.

This is a beta unit with plenty of changes, encryption is on by default with the key provided for you and you don't need to set up the router at all, in fact, you can't. But I didn't tell you that.
