Default Decent laptop for £500-600??

My dad-in-law is after a new laptop for around the £500/600 mark but i've no idea on the best ones at the mo.

Mainly to be used for word processing, a bit of surfing and downloading images from his digi camera's to burn them to CD.

No gaming/DVD playback etc required.

It will also need to be from a highstreet store such as Staples, PC World etc etc. Any decent models to look at?

Ecomputers on Ebay does new Dell laptops (usually cancelled orders) at significantly reduced prices. You get a new machine (Dell is good gear) and a warranty from a reputable dealer. There are quite a few in that price range- if you don't top range multimedia capability, it's quite easy to get a laptop that'll do all you want and more in that price range these days.
