Hi all,
Hoping for some advice. A friend has a fault with his cd drive, it no longer appears in the "my computer" view, and it no longer auto-play's cd's.
The device manager gives it a fault "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)"
I have tried un-installing the driver, removing the drive, and then plugging it back in. plug and play recongnises the drive when it gets plugged back in and reloads the driver, but i still get the same issue.
Any ideas on what else i can try or does it sound like replacing the drive is the way to go?
He is running XP is that makes a difference.
Thanks for and help or advice.

Does it show up in the Laptops BIOS at powerup? worth having a look just in-case. The only other thing I can think of is that the device is conflicting with something else.
