Default Too many viruses?

Hi,

Following on from my recent XP thread, I've managed to get into the PC in safe mode and run an up to date version of AVG.

The scan found 750 infected files, which have now all been moved to AVG's vault.

I was amazed at how many it found to be honest, but now don't know what to do. Is it best to just back up anything they want to keep and reformat the system when you find that many infected files, or now that they have all been removed, should it be okay?

I'm leaning to the reformat the system side. But obviously that is a lot of hassle if it's not needed.

Cheers

Steve

I would be tempted to reformat and re-install. Aside from the virus free environment, you will probably find your system will run much faster - Windows is a degrading system, and will slow down as the registry gets bloated with entries that are no longer applicable. Just back up anything you want to keep (assuming it's virus free).

kind of depends which virus(s) you have.

A single virus might infect multiple files.

Did you catch any names?

They can't log into safe mode now, so I think it is a reformat job thanks guys.

I think he said one of them was win32/virut.A
