Q for the people with Sky BB
Finally got my broadband router from them today.
Installed it on the laptop first, followed the instructions to the letter, plugging in the laptop via the supplied ethernet cable to the router during installation. It's working fine (using it to post this).
However, on the main PC upstairs, I just installed the software from the Sky CD, it tested connection, obviously expecting to be connected via the ethernet cable which it wasn't cause the PC is too far away.
On the main PC's network connections, I can see the Sky wireless connection. However, when I try and connect to it I get a message on screen saying
"Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The Network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try to connect again"
The signal strength isn't great I will admit (the PC only has an 11mb/s card in it) but it's deffo got a signal.
Could it be down to the PCI card being a DLINK branded card? the laptop connects fine with a Buffalo 54g card.
I'm tempted to go and get a 54g PCI card tomorrow but I don't want to be throwing money away unneccesarily!
So after a long winded post, do any of my fellow Sky BB subscribers have any trouble? did you connect your PC(s) via the ethernet cable?

Still if it saves me £30

both my laptop and linux desktop are connected wirelessly .
Force the i/p address to 192.168.0.n subnet 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.0.1 , this bypasses the dhcp which can be flaky.
Set the router to auto108 instead of b+g as it's more stable
The 'sky' branded usb adaptor is only 20 quid direct from them ..and it's a WG111T which is around 30 quid in the shops.....
Currently running Linksys Router , Netgear usb wireless adaptor and 3com wireless pcmcia laptop card , so you can't get much more mixed ... missing out on the '108' mode to the desktop at the moment but stability is more important to me....

So did you connect each one of those via ethernet to the router Steve?
How do you set the router to auto108? they didn't seem to give the login details of the router anywhere in the pack.

Difficult for me to say at the mo cause I spent most of the night trying to get the main PC working rather than using the laptop on the interweb.
Seemed to fluctuate quite a bit though, whether that was signal strength related or not I'm not sure. Will be able to give a better idea once the main PC is up and 'torrenting'
Steve, can you point me to more info on flashing etc, I'm not overly pleased with having to use the Sky stuff.

You will be able to use your D-Link adapter with the NETGEAR. If the desktop pc is struggling on a signal, then all you need is a directional antenna to boost the signal. cheap as chips.
Matt - I can pop around and sort it out for you if you want. It's only NETGEAR stuff after all catch up with a beer

Hmmm main PC now connected. All I did was delete my original 'prefered' wireless network!?
Signal strength is 'excellent' ! ?
Connection speed...
DownStream Connection Speed 6176 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps
edit, forgot to add, haven't been able to login to the Sky Portal sice I've been connected, either last night, nor tonight.

you need to port forward tcp / udp for the same (random, non privileged ) port you have configured in azureus to your machine... I picked one in the 61nnn range - definately not the default 6889 > range .
Should be trivial

Everything working except the Dlink Ethernet Bridge. I've even tried resetting the thing back to default but I can't log in to it, even if it's connected via the ethernet cable to the PC... Ar$e!!
