been there and they are just WAY OTT!!!... talking about water cooling, seperate cooling towers and stuff that went WAY over my head...

just need somebody who is not going to quote core temps, and aload of other crap thats just a bunch of figures with no meaning!...

i dont want cooling towers everywhere...

i just want a fast pc thats up to the latest games without all the tech bull..

a good lits of components that work well and will be fairly reliable...

oh thanks for the constructive reply BTW :-)

yeah looked at the alienware, dell xps, and rock i think it was....

i would like to build it myself TBH but if the pre built was a good enough deal i would go for it...

the alienware specced up is 3k! - same as the dell!

thats the price of a car not a pc!

Build your own is the best way I think to be honest.

Everyones definition of what you should have is different at the end of the day.

For games I would say dual core and sli is a must.

Add SATA drives and industry standard soundcard for fast disk access and standard, up to date driver availability.

You want at least 2 hard disks - 3 is better - so you can seperate the application (put them all on 1 disk), operating system (another) and swapfile (the third). I usually put data (My Documents) and the swapfile on the same drive as they don't both need accessing in games.

Be advised that some games (Far Cry srings to mind) don't like being put on a drive letter differet to their default. So you may want to set your application drive to be C:

Oh, and the cheapest way *may* be to buy a good spec Dell at silly cheap money then get the extras you need (SLI video cards etc) from somewhere like e-buyer and fit them yourself. Dell seem to supply reasonable base spec machines with OK LCD screens for less than Joe Public can by the components!

Not really. You might want to get 2GB of RAM rather than 1GB though if you can stretch to it

Stick with your old machine and buy an Xbox 360. Gaming PC's are a thing of the past. Save a few hundred quid.

I'd have a few hundred quid if I had a pound for every time I heard that.

You won't be getting Crysis or Medieval TW 2 on 360 anytime soon, if ever.

Get both a 360 and a decent PC gaming rig - only way to be sure

Just like the rest of us.

Agreed the 360 is good, but some games are just far better on the PC. BF2 for example, the 360 version isn't a patch (no pun intended) on the PC version!

Anyhow, if you don't want to build yourself.. how about:
"Ultima" Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 'LGA775' 2.40GHz Dual Core (1066FSB) DDR2 System (FS-005-OC)
If you are looking for the ultimate Intel Core 2 DUO box then look no further than the Ultima Core 2 DUO E6600 'LGA775'' 2.40GHz Dual Core. Also future proofed by been Crossfire upgradable, so add a X1950 Master card at a later date to double gaming performance. Supplied pre-built it has an impressive specification to say the least :-

- Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 'LGA775'' 2.40GHz Dual Core (1066FSB) 2MB Cache CPU - Retail
- Abit AW9D-MAX Intel 975X (LGA775) Dual DDR2 PCI-Express Motherboard
- Corsair 2GB (2x1GB) XMS2-6400 CAS4 DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
- 400GB Western Digital Caviar SE16 16mb Cache SATA-2 Hard Drive
- ATI Radeon X1950 XTX 512MB GDDR4 PCI-Express Graphics card
- NEC ND5170 16 x 16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter
- Enermax Liberty 620W ATX SLi Compliant Modular Silent PSU
- Windows XP Professional pre-installed with License and CD supplied
- Norton Internet Security Suite 2006 pre-installed and CD supplied
Bit out of budget though, but top of the range GPU, decent CPU and 2Gb ram for 1199.

But they are not bringing world of warcraft out on the consoles.
