See other thread, this may be an opportunity to build a new pc without the wife moaning!!

Current spec is AMD 2200, 1gb Ram, ATI 128mb 9500 gfx plus usual bits and bobs i.e. DVD Writer, Wireless card

PC used for gaming, runs COD2 without issue, but need something to run the next gen games, been looking at an AM2 Dual Core, can someone give me a decent recommendation for a mobo?

If you are doing a complete rebuild, you might as well go down the new intel core2 duo route as they are considerably faster now and use less power/less heat.

I would recommend Asus or Abit Sli, both have been ultra reliable and I've built in excess of 300 machines

Well I have both the FX60 939 and the 2.93 4mb cache extreme here and I can assure you the intel is quicker.

core 2 duos are socket 775 normally on a 1066mhz bus

yeah I was amd through and through, then thought I would give the pentium 805d a go (dual core runs at 2.6ghz but can be overclocked to 4ghz with a replacement cooler )

lot better than my old amd 64 3200 and I think the processor was only £60 ish

Ok gone with the following

512mb Asus Crossfire X1600 gfx
2 gb Kingston matched pair 400mhz Ram
200gb Sata II hdd
AMD 4600 Dual Core CPU

Plus existing 6.1 Creative EAX sound, Linksys Wifi

Went with the AMD for price and performance.

Built yesterday, went like the proverbial **** off shovel. Came down this morning to find the Asus a8r-mvp mobo is dead as a dodo. No led, nothing. Swapped power supply and same result. Did a search on web and these mobos don't have a great rep, should have checked before I ordered it.

So ABit mobo ordered, rebuild again when it comes.
