I have 2 php scripts that I want to use, one is for detecting files in a directory and another to upload files to a dir

for the file detect script a php file has to be placed in the dir, ok

for the upload php the dir has to CHMOD xrw, without doing this it doesnt work (says error dir not xrw)

now, the file detect script works until I CHMOD xrw the dir, then it doesnt work but the upload does

The first time i did this it worked and still does (on a mates site), now I cant get it to work for another site

Any ideas?
