Default Tasks running on my PC

1st question, when I close outlook why does it continue to run as a process using like 95000k ??

2nd question, why is XP not showing me the icons of programs running in the task bar next to my clock ? sometimes it does, sometimes it doesnt ?

And if anyone dares to tell me there hidden and all I need to do is click the little circle with the arrowe, I'll scream

Have you tried adaware & that sort of stuff?

I had a problem with mine one time and running the free internet based scan at TrendMicro seemed to do it eventually... Trend Micro - Free online virus Scan

Outlook could not be closing because some other app is using it. Do you use Activesync?

Not all running programs are shown in the system tray, just the ones that are programmed to display an icon.

You can check what is running on your pc using Process Explorer. Also you can check what loads at startup using HijackThis. Both are free & both can be dangerous if you bugger about on your own without asking back here first!

An excellent Spyware cleaner that has a 30 free trial is AVG Anti-Spyware.

Another vote for Hijack This - an excellent tool.

How best to manage Activesync is to disconnect any devices before closing Outlook.

If they're wireless, check for other wireless products that may be interfering. Like wireless clocks, remote doorbells etc. If they're Bluetooth... it's a "feature"!

Which version are you using? If you open a PST file created with Outlook 2003 into Outlook 2000 then the Outlook process will continue to run. There is a hotfix for this.
