Default What do you reckon to this as a spec

Looking to get a new base unit bought or built myself in the next month or so. Done some digging round and got this as a spec, what do people think:

Core 2 Duo E6600
7950GT 512MB PCI-E
400GB SATA HD
2GB RAM
DVD Dual Layer Writer
550w PSU
Mobo based on the 965 or 975 chipset
Plus cases, fans etc.

Should keep me going a few more years?

Very similiar spec to what I'm having built as we speak! Just hunting for a really funky case at the moment (ideally want a chrome or stainless horizontal unit as opposed to a tower).

My last PC, of similar spec believe it or not, lasted about 2 years but I use mine day in, day out (SEO/Web designer) and it's survived 2 boiling hot dusty summers in Spain...

Pretty much the same as I built last month.
Core 2 6600
4gb OCZ DDR2-800
2x 250gb SATA
2x 7300GT Golden Sample PCI-E
Asus Commando Mobo
480w Tagan PSU
3x 19" TFT

It's very fast, you'll be happy with that for a fair while yet.

It's a similar spec to the PC I built late last year. I went with an ATI 1950 graphics card instead. I'm happy with it. Runs well enough with everything I've thrown at it so far.

Yeah I was thinking I don't really need the SLi stuff, so for the price of around 180-190 is the 7950GT going to be my best bet?

No, you are better off going for a 8800 GTS (just a little bit more)

4GB of RAM but you can always add this later.
Go for a 600W+ power supply.
Make sure the mobo can run PCI-E x16 slots.
