In 1 week it will get it's bottom kicked by the PS3 and sales will dry up - they know that and why6 they are trying desperately to shift units ...... same as the XBOX 360 - I have seen quite amazingly low prices for them recently.
The money is made on the games - they can give the Consoles away free ....

Pete, the fact you say the wii will get it's bottom kicked by PS3 shows how much you know about the consoles in question....
Of course it will, in terms of performance, but not neccessarily in sales. Wii's are cheap fun, like Subarus.
You are comparing apples & oranges...

The longevity of the system is the big thing.
Look at Sony's PSP vs Nintendo's DS lite
Yes the PSP is a much more capable machine but the DS lite has out sold the PSP by a vast amount.

So far the PS3 has been a flop compared to the hype where it has been released. I've been a Sony fan buying PS1, PS2 and PSP but Sony will most definately not be getting my money for a PS3. The Xbox 360 got my money and many other former Sony fan boys money because of the huge delay for release, poor games line up for release and the ridiculous release price. Add to that the fantastic online play provided by Xbox where Sony has had an appaling online system so far its Sony who are the ones who have their work cut out.

SONY are the dogs danglies .............. buy cheap, buy twice.
In all my experience, with SONY you get stuff you don't even think you are getting - it's hard to explain ....... but quality costs.

That may be so for some products but you still don't understand the differences between a Wii and a flagship console. They aren't designed for the same demographic, the cost is totally irrelevant.

Can't remember the last time a new console was still readily available a week before launch. Will be even more when the ebayers cancel as there is no secondary market.
Hope Sony sink.

The Wii isn't as good as people make out. I found it to be very kiddy. I thought it would have been good after a few beers but it got boring very quickly.
The controler's a tad daft too, take baseball for example, if you swing it like a bat it's quite hard to get a home run, if you just hold it infront of you and flick the top forward you get home runs each time.
I don't like how it doesn't play DVD's either.
I'm more impressed with the 360 to be honest.

The PS3 is backward compatable and it has Blu-ray doesn't it?
To my mind it will blow the also-rans away ..... I agree that the Wii is a kiddie toy - Nintendo have always placed their units at the under 10 year olds.

I think thats whats in question Pete, the european models are missing some chips that are in the Japanese models which will severely limit its capacity to be compatible PS2 and PS1 games (as I understand it).

I posted in the ps3 preorder thread that facts about Feb's PS3 vs 360 sales. Fact is that with no shortages in supply the PS£ sold around 100'000 less than the 360 over the same period.
This is now being seen in the UK where in the last three days I have has several emails quoting order now and get a launch day unit !! I had to wait almost a month for my 360
and yes the emotion engine (PS2 emulation) has been removed from the EU model just to kick Europe in the teeth once again.

Nintendo did the BEST thing they could do in their situation in launching the Wii. They were innovative and clever in stepping back in the performance and focusing in fun together with family & friends. What first looked like a very risky business to du, soon changed to a 'trendy' console and it is focused on everybody form 5 - 99 years of age.
The battle is clearly between the 360 and PS3 and with the 1+ year head start of the 360, Microsoft could gain a lot of salesground. What PS3 has done was focusing TOO much on the consoles extra thingy dingys like blueray, etc. In real life nobody needs blueray at the moment except some tech neard. They should have better invested this money in bundels with HD-TVs discount vouchers or something equally and should have brought out (like Microsoft did with HD-DVD) the blueray add-on later in its lifecycle as upselling possibility. In the end it's still the fun you have playing a game. You could polish up PACMAN to the max with whatever shining effects you could but in the end the gameplay is the same fun as it was 25 years ago.
I believe that today we can compare a peach (Wii) to an apple (360) to some bitter tasting grapefruit named (PS3).
Happy gaming to all of you...
