Sorry to **** on your chips but you could have saved £10 and got an extra game and wireless controller!

Good choice though

£150 at boots.com
core systmn mind.

to be honest mate I was going to go for a 360 myself up to last week with the above excellent deal at boots.com but seems every gaming forum on the net has users having probs with these 360`s and yes thats even the latest built ones.

still enjoy it whilst you can !!!

Okay guess you are one off the lucky ones, you surely cant deny thou mate that there is an unreasonably high perecentage off xbox 360`s that eventually fail within a relativly short space off time ??

near neighbour of mine is a manageress at " GAME " and she admitts that the number off returned 360`s over the years has been very high in comparasion to ps2 / psp, nintendo etc, etc.

apparantly build quality was very poor, again just my own online findings and sure there are a lot off happy owners around but again a quick search of the net including our own scoobynet will soon reveall what I am referring to regarding problems with this very machine.

pity as frpm what I have also read it still rates very favourably in terms off graphics etc to the much more expensive ps3.

Launch day machine here too
To be honest, not many people are going to go on forums and start threads saying "My 360 is still working fine"

Cool

My brother's 360 failed just last week (with a couple of weeks of his 12 month warranty left), but he was able to get an extra 3 year warranty for £30 from the Xbox support team.

Now I'd argue that you shouldn't need to pay that and a piece of consumer electronics which costs around £300 should last at least 3-4 years anyway, but at least it gives you peace of mind, what with all the reports of failures, and for not very much money.

Whenever I've sent mine back the labels have come through via email within a couple of hours. I'd ring them if I were you (sounds like something may have gone astray). In fact each time I've had the labels, sent it off, and got the replacement back within a week...

would it really surprise you if the "error" is actually made by M$ to get people to pay for more warrently ?

All they do is reset it and it all works ok again

I am on my 4th system. the first 3 were core systems and which were all sent in for refurbishing. For my 4th system I bought a premium version which runs smoothly now and has a 2 year warranty from the store. Eventhough I had so much hassle with the 360, I still love it. Xbox Live Arcade its Marketplace and the whole online gaming are THE best implementations for this console.

Erm, no. That would be ever so slightly illegal, and whatever you think of Microsoft, they wouldn't be that stupid.

It's well documented that the majority of the faults require some small soldering work to be done inside the machine, repairing that quality Chinese craftmanship....

Exactly why the "towel" method is supposed to cure the ring of death.

Wrapping the 360 in a towel then turning it on until it gets very hot re-melts that dodgly soldering and after rebooting normally works ok.

And in doing this causes all the other solder within the unit to melt and cause other problems !!

sorry mate but in no way can I be convinced that the 360 is a reliable games consul, seems everyone knows someone whos machne has eventually had to be returned- as stated above not what you expect from a £300 piece off kit.

read a lot of stories about people resoldering there own consoles with a heatgun

mine has been fine i think?

i did have the arcade live minigolf game freeze up on me once, but that's probably crap code, and 2 other times i have pressed the dashboard button and the console has froze up, again, its basically a PC i think so probably a bug somewhere in the programing.

my gears of war disc once said that it was dirty not sure if it was or not a quick wipe and it was back to normal

i only bought mine this year as a core package from argos so hopefully some of the launch day problems have been ironed out.
