Why is it that LCD pc screens are still only available in 1280*1024? (or the widescreen alternative).
Yet modern Laptop screens & LCD TV's have silly resolutions.

They aren't.
The 20" 4:3 monitor I am using right now has a natie res of 1600X1200
THe 24" on the desk next to me has a native res of 1920X1200
4:3 17&19" LCD montors are typically 1280X1024
I.e. the bigger you go, the higher the native res.

Pc Screens go higher than TV's do :S
17" and 19" is 1280 x 1024 (widescreen is 1440 x 900)
20" and 22" widescreen are 1680 x 1050
24 - 27" widescreen are 1920 x 1080
30+ are 2560 x 1600
I don't know the 4:3 resolutions but they are much higher than TV's.
