Oh its norton, those people who dont give you the full uninstall for your av when you want to get rid of it.... makes you wonder why you want to get rid of it in the first place
I use Mcaffee, just because I like it, though its probably not THE best, it does for my needs

Tony, Mcaffee, your happy with it then? when you say it`s not the best in what way?? i`ve heard good reports about Mcaffee aswell so i might have a look at that too, Norton was going to be my choice really cus it was on the computer when i purchased it and it`s been ok (TOUCH WOOD) Mind you, the 360 is £60 nearly..

Nod32. End of story

Both Norton and McAfee are full of bloatware, and are not entirely reliable. I switched to Nod32 after using both of the other products and it's superior in almost every respect

You could use AVG its free. I use it on my windows machine and have never had any problems.

All I can say is try it... its free so if you don't like it uninstall it and buy Norton/Mcaffee again

Dont get me wrong its great on the PC and thats what it was designed for, but you can get better, though at 500 quid plus its not worth it (i paid 5 quid for my 2007 security suit )

Have used both Norton and McAfee which both slowed the PC down no end.

Currently using a product called F Secure the last few months which I am very happy with.

Personally I would stay away from Norton - as said it's an absolute nightmare to remove should you want to. I base this on personal experience of the last version of NAV - Maybe 2007 is a little friendlier ?

I would stay away from McAfee if you have an older PC as it is very resource intensive.

I run Kaspersky on a PC that's about 18months old (so not the latest dual core power) and it ticks away nicely in the background without having any noticable impact. I believe Kaspersky have recently licensed their engine out to another company who are now shipping an identical product, but cheaper. If I find the product I'll let you know if ur interested.

Antivirus Software - Eliminate Spyware and Adware with NOD32 Antivirus from ESET

It's also advertised in most of the major computing / pc gaming magazines

Thanks Iain.

Just another question folks, can you pick up a virus even when you`re not on the net? or do you have to be active on line??

It is possible to pick up viruses from other sources than the internet. If you open a file from a cd that has already been infected for example. This isn't very common though (unless you got the cd / floppy disk from somewhere dodgy)...
