Norton Corporate addition! Not sure how good it is, it hasn't found a virus yet!! I use a firewall as well, both hardware and software!!

Personally I've tried both Norton and NAI, and under Win2k I find Norton MUCH less resource intensive. I'd love to say NAI/McAffee was the best because Jack has been very helpful, but I just found it slowed down the PC significantly compared with norton...

Both seemed equally effective at virus detection. I must stress that these finding were only found on my PC's (All on W2k) and different O/S's may produce different results.

Jon, when the software's working as hard as ours does, it's bound to cause a bit of performance loss

You're almost right Chris, I am a marketing dude - hate to admit it - and the answer could have come from the mouth of a marketroid. Difference is that I've been working with AV software for 9 years and never has McAfee software been further ahead of the competition in terms of both innovation and existing technology.

As for Sophos, well don't get me started!! What an alarmist, antiquated piece... I'll stop there!

Edited to add a

I agree with Mike too, out of 65,000 threats 60+ are for Microsoft App's and OS's.

Kasperski Antivirus rooted out a couple of viruses that both Norton and McAfee missed.

Excellent IMHO.

BuRR, comments like that are laughable. Don't get me wrong Kaperski labs are IMHO one of the best in the world. The virus collection that they provide to us on a regular basis is always full of new and interesting code. But, if like you say your other two vendors missed the threat then chances are that they were not up to date rather than incompetent and were not using Heuristic detection techniques. For independent non commercial testing of a products ability to detect new and unknown threats try here http://agn-www.informatik.uni-hamburg.de/vtc/en0107.htm this is an incredibly important test, especially when you consider that the majority of Antivirus software is currently in need of an update. And yes McAfee VirusScan wins, something everyone here in Aylesbury is mighty proud of.

If you don't mind being a bit of an experiment you can try this link http://virusscanasap.mcafeeasap.com/...5b4a5042382627 I suggest you uninstall any current AV software you have first, plus you get pretty much zero support. Otherwise for home users http://mcafeestoreuk.beyond.com/Fron...76,3-5,00.html

If you go to the home user link at the moment it seems you can get the packaged version for the same money as the downloadable, I've sent a mail that will put this right, but if you're quick you'll get a bargain.

The downloadable should be much cheaper. They may well have put it right by now.

Unhappy

Just got a full price inc. delivery & Vat, it come to £65 odd, way too much money just for home use.

I cant understand as why delivery within the U.K is the same as sending it abroad.

Can someone enlighten me

Jack thanks for all your help but it really is a bit pricey
