Default HOW DO I GET RID OF THEM ?

For the last few weeks I have been getting full screen adverts for items such as mobile phones/ mortgages etc. I noticed when logging on to the internet that the "orange.co.uk" changed to orange.co.uk/refresh.....( Or similar) After that these adverts would show up on the lower task bar with the windows internet explorer logo. In an effort to get rid of them, I changed my home page to "Yahoo" and this seemed to work for a few days but now they are back again ( Even though the home page address does not now change to refresh. My son reccommended trying the "NOD32" Anti Virus system and although this seems good, |I still get these full screen adverts. Can anyone help, please. It would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mike

Sounds like you've got some nasty spyware. Download this free program to get rid of it :

Spybot Search & Destroy

Thanks for your advice. I should have mentioned that I had tried "Spybot"but that didn't solve the problem. Have you any other suggestions as to how to get rid of them?
Thanks again

Ad-Aware 2007 - Reviews and free downloads at Download.com

give that a whirl, also try the error message in google i.e certain web loads up etc, someone may have posted a method somewhere on how to get rid of it. I've had to do that a few times on machines I've looked at

Also did you make sure that Spybot had downloaded the latest updates ? There's been a new version released fairly recently as well.
Running Ad-Aware as an extra precaution would be a good idea too.

have you not considered the fact that you have clicked on something and then directly allowed them to pop up ?? I'm sure there is a back door on MSN as well ?? If they aren't spyware then you have installed something that lets them on your pc. There is a free firewall, i have forgotten the name? but if you install that, there is no way they can open up without your consent

'Hijackthis' is another good tool to use.

But you have to be careful which processes you remove..not recommended for novices

What operating system are you using & what security software do you currently have installed? Also what security software did you have installed when the problem occurred?

Nod32 is an excellent anti-virus program, but you probably have spyware installed, rather than an actual virus. Have you run a full Nod32 in-depth scan?

Assuming that you have a modern operating system (XP/Vista) you should try both the following anti-spyware programs to clean the problems. Uninstall any other anti-spyware programs first, especially Adaware.

Open your browser & delete all the temporary Internet files.

Go to Prevx CSI - FREE Malware Scanner & run the free scan. Report back on anything it finds.

Next go to ewido - anti-spyware and anti-malware solutions & download & install AVG anti-spyware. It is a 30 day free trial. Run a full scan.

Next run Deano's suggestion, HijackThis from:
TrendSecure | TrendMicro™ HijackThis™ Overview
DO NOTHING with the results, simply post a log or screen print here.

If you are still using IE7, dump it like a hot potato & install Firefox from here: Firefox - Rediscover the Web Firefox is a much safer browser than IE.

If you need detailed help, PM or email me.

Try this is you haven't already

In Windows XP, NT and 2000, proceed as follows:

* Right-click on the My Computer icon, and select Manage.
* Under "Services and applications", select "Services".
* Scroll down the list of services until you reach Messenger.
* Right-click the Messenger service and select Properties.
* Click the "stop" button.
* Change the startup option to Disabled.

That's it. You will now receive no more messenger popups.

Also from the looks of it I'm betting you can speed up your computer if you can get hold of "Registry Mechanic".
