Default Making Cat5 cables

Ok, i followed some diagram after searching google & my cable isnt working.

So can anyone give me some pointers ?

Do i have to bare the ends that i slot into the plug ?

No - you don't bare the ends, just cut them all square and crimp hard!

If they're not all square you may find that some are at the end of the channel and others aren't - which could be the problem... but chances are you've either:

1. Used the wrong wiring diagram - post what you've used.

2. Not crimped hard enough!


This is an accurate guide to doing it: Cat5 Wiring Diagram Just go with the first diagram - standard patch lead (I'm assuming you're not trying to make a cross-over cable?)

I used the second diagram. If i want to connect two pc's together without a hub do i make cross over cable ?

Yes.

First diagram is for hub-PC or switch-PC or patch panel use...

Second (cross-over) is for PC to PC use without a hub.
