Network cable - length & running it outdoors.
Hi,
Decided to give up on my wireless and go wired, which involves running a network cable from the router in the dining room to my study.
If I do this internally, I will need around 40 metres, but if I run it outside then its a lot less (say 15 metres) as its an L shaped house.
Q1 - any signal degredation with running a 40 metre cable?
Q2 - If I run it outside, will a standard cable be ok exposed to rain/frost etc?
Cheers.

the cable outside will split break and crack with the weather
Get some external CAT5 and use that instead
Oh and you are ok to run CAT5 upto 100 metres, or 90 metres if running Power down it

....until you turn the washing machine/Microwave on!
And I've seen some great Cat5 outdoor installations - like Cat5 just thrown accross flat roofs - and well in excess of 100m - how it ever worked I don't know.
Like above though, 40m will be fine.
Can you use some conduit outside?
