For some reason, when i disconnect(hang-up) my (win?)modem from the internet, my CPU seems to hover around the 45% utilised mark (under System Monitor) and yet if i re-connect it drops back down to 15% (under "idle" conditions).
This is starting to get on my nerves, and i would like to know exactly what process is chomping my CPU. How can i do the equivalent of the Windows2000 Task Manager under Windows98?
Is there some utility on, say, the Resource Kit or in TechNet to show me this information?
Cheers,
mb

Simply, CTRL + ALT + DELETE. That will give you a "simple" Task Manager (apps not processes). You can kill apps from there if you like but on Win98, it could blow your whole system apart .....

Proplem with CTRL-ALT-DEl is that it holds up the rest of your system at the same time. A right B$$$ when you're burning CD's and the like.

BuRR,
thanks for that - i'll download and give it a try.
Matt,
I already tried C-A-D, but it don't tell you what is actually chewing up the CPU, and misses stuff out anyway. I had a look around the W98 resource kit, and there is utility called TLIST which although DOS based does list everything (but is still naff!).

Sadly the Niresoft program doesn't display the CPU usage by individual processes - so i can't tell what application might be adrift.
