360 or PS3
Now that HDD looks like doing a betamax. Here's the question is it better to go for the 360n or the PS3.
I had a 360 till moving overseas and my removal company "misplaced" several expensive items, one being the XBox.
I was really happy with it and graphics wise they're more superior than the PS3 [or so I read].
So is it worth the change just for blu-ray?

As for which you should buy, it's been done to death.
The best advice I can give is to find someone with a 360 and some games and have aplay, and do the same with PS3 - Base your choice on that.
In other words, experience them for yourself and then make a choice.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh I know this has been done to death but each time there is a different winner on the graphic front. I have had a 360 and loved it. Now I could be faced with a change.

..... what ever you buy, you will wish at times you had the other, one is better than the other depending on who you speak to. Got 360myself, love it to bits, PS3 dont offer much to warrent the extra spend and I had PS1+2 from launch.
Like Pete said, try them both out, possible rental for a weekend? Sit down with mates a fridge of beer and snacks and try them both for long periods of time, see which one you come back to.

try them both out, 360 has the most amount of good games out at the moment but it has that 'tiny' problem of dying on u, most of my friends are on their third or fourth 360! i had one and it died twice so i gave up and went for ps3, graphics are very similar, plus u get the blu ray ( this gives it the edge graphics wise as more games will be released and can utilise the blue ray option ) plus if u like online gaming isnt it about 40 squid for a year on xbox but its totally free on ps3

Spec wise i doubt theres much in it, so look for what you want to get out of it and whats available.
As for bluray, it's inevitable that MS will release an addon bluray drive at some point so don't simply choose ps3 for movie playback alone.

From what owners of ps3 have told me the online marketplace pretty much sucks on ps3 and paying 67p (£35 per year) a week is hardly gonna break the bank for what is a far superior online experience, but lets not start a debate

If I was buying now I'd buy a cheapish 2nd hand 360 (HDMI Version) with a few games for just over £200. One on here actually. If I was happy I'd stick with that. If however in a years time the PS3 was dominating in terms of games (It's not now) I'd think about selling the 360 for little loss and get a PS3 which will have dropped in price again by then.

I don't think anyone can give you advice as to which one suits you best. It's your choice.
Each has their benefits / drawbacks. Do some research and it will be an easy choice.
If you can answer this question it's a start.
Which one has the games you would like to play?

I borrowed both from a colleague at work.
I preferred the PS3 to the 360, the 360, as a machine and an interface, felt rather cheap and nasty, but I appreciate that's only my opinion.
Graphics wise and games wise, only you can decide if it's for you.
If you can borrow both, do.
If you can't, get a PS3
Geezer
P.S. Isn't the new Sony online service going to be launched soon? I believe it's supposed to be pretty revolutionary, and free to boot.

Yeah - Home - Its basically a virtual world where you walk around, challenge people to games, look at thier acheivements (in the form of a virtual trophy cabinet in thier virtual house and so on.
before that though, the XMB is going to be accessible in game which is going to make a big difference and make the whole system far more like live.

If you mean anything to do with the freeview box PVR thing then you need to buy the pvr plugin box thing which isnt rummoured to be cheap, then theres also the fact that Sony have yet to answer questions as to if you can still play games while it's recording a tv show. If it doesnt then its kinda pointless as an all in one media device.

i bought an xbox to play online with really and can't fault it, although returning it for the dreaded RROD might be on the cards soon
you cant go wrong either way, go with what your friends have to play online or swap games

I'm pleased they are going to - It's so annoying at the moment. When you are in a game, you can't press the guide button and bring up whose online, send invites etc.
In PSN once you are in game, thats it, you can only invite people that are playing that particualr games - you cant send messages etc.
Thats should change with the next firmwar eupdate where they are going to have the XMB useable in game - which wil let you do all those things.
of course its just a precursor to Home, which is where the real innovation will be.

Wise words!
We have both and tbh, the ps3 hardly ever gets used. Assassins Creed is the only game i think is worth mentioning on the ps3.
360 online is where we spend most of our time, forza2, cod4, etc.
So take it from people who have GOT both, get a 360 (at this moment in time).

I have both and if forced to have one it would be the 360.
I'll be blunt - as a gaming console the 360 is much better than the PS3. The only good games on the PS3 are Ratchet & Clank, Drakes Fortune and Resistance :Fall of Man. There is no comparison online, Xbox Live is so much better it's not funny. I also like the achievements on the 360.
There isn't much in the graphics but on most cross-platform games the 360 has had the edge - on some games this has been significant though.
I prefer the menus on the 360 too, the PS3 seems a bit ill thought out.
The PS3 wins on build quality/aesthetics and is pretty much silent. The 360 fans make a bit of noise and I find it too distracting when watching quiet films at night. When you play games you don't really notice it though.
Controllers are better on the 360 IMO, plus other things like MSN Messenger integration.

This all too common sight put me off an XBox360
PS3 was my choice, love it, never had a problem with online gaming, plenty enough games out there to keep me occupied at the moment and some great titles coming soon
