Default Which Broadband ?

I’ve finally made a decision to get broadband installed at home

Dilemma now is who to go with? Unfortunately I live in a conservation area (cobbled street) so cable is not an option (SKY is ok tho)

Just curious as to people’s opinions on service providers?

My mobile contract is with Orange, so I suppose I could look at them as one option

Edited for accuracy

I've got BT broadband, it's ok but the hub needs re-booted quite regularly. Their customer services are dire though, but not as bad as Virgin yet!

I'm with Be Internet - great performance (normally up around 16 Mb) and outstanding customer service - something of a rarity in the world of broadband providers.

if you have sky tv then go for sky broadband, good reliable service
I am just in the process of changing to be though as I am cancelling sky tv.
Dont go with BT though as it is expensive for a capped service.

Plusnet provide fixed IP's, I've been on one for the last 4 years. Main issue I have is the local exchange which is crap, however, it's being upgraded this year apparently so I should start to get some decent speeds.

Be have 3 packages lite for 14 quid so upto 8mb DL - the pro upto 24mb DL 1.3 UL and 1 free static IP addy (im on this costs 18 quid PM) the top one is 22 quid but you only get extra upload speed so not worth it fo me IMO

If O2 are in your exchange then these should be the top of your list I reckon, Just changed to them and they're are bloody brilliant. Great customer service - they e-mail me to apologise that my speeds were not up to what they expected (although 4-5 times better than I had with Virgin ADSL) and offered to try and better it over the phone or reduce my tariff. They called me, explained everything and we moved to the 8mb servce.

But I get fast broadband without dropouts. Can't fault them.

I'm with Vodafone - £25 (including Line Rental) and all phone calls.
Cheap if you've got a Voda mobile contract anyway. Also free customer support (and very good too)
Highly reliable - 1 short outage in nearly 16 months
8Meg fair usage policy. I've caned it and never had an issue.
I'm also getting on average (even in high peak) 6.8 Meg.
The contract is 18months, and whilst probably not the cheapest, I've got to admit, they've been really good.

Avoid AOL, thats who im trying too get away from, tech support is worthless unless you are fluent in punjab.

They have moved everyone accross too the carphone warehouse/talk talk network which is heavily oversubscribed and unreliable.

The only thing not answered or asked by the op here, is weather he can get LLU.

Different ball game then.

You've got to take a look at orange mate,if your contract is over £30 a month then its free(depending on what speed you want). I've been with orange since they were freeserve! With no problems
