As title, I gather a lot of 1080p TVs display a rather lower resolution when connected to a PC.
My PC has Nvidia 8800GT 512MB graphics card that has twin DVI outputs. I presently have no monitor for this PC having given away my old 19" CRT and am about to move house.
I'd prefer to spend under £1k and would like 42"-50". I like the blacks on plasma screens, but don't think they have the resolution I want at this price?
I'll probably also get Freesat HD, but with a lot of SD sources I'd like them to look half decent.
So far I've been using an SD projector for Sky Freeview and DVDs.

Does it make a difference how its connected to a PC?
I've got a 42PX70 panny and its res is very low but its on the VGA port. Can I up the res if I use a DVI/HDMI lead?

Time for a rethink? Wondering about a 24" OCUK monitor for the PC and I think I'll get a proper screen for my SD LCD projector, new house doesn't have a nice smooth wall like this one. I was discussing the screen size with the misses and she was wanting a 32". I moved the projector nearer to the wall until the screen size was 52" then 42" and it looks miserably small (5m viewing distance, usual 95" is great), but is brighter for daytime viewing which is a problem - eg Wimbledon is useless, but DVDs at night are cinematic. I will see what room layout we have in the new place before deciding I think. It may be better to divide up the room with furniture a bit.

lol - Sony & Sammy panels are virtually identical, they're made in the same co-owned factory and they're building another together. Although half the trick is the processing in the background, and Sony have been doing that for donkey's...
Nearly bought a Sammy myself, but a bit plasticky for my liking...

I have an OCUK 24" monitor for my PC. To be fair, I can't see why you'd need to spend any more on a screen. Its fantastic and I play alot of games and theres no noticeable lag.

They just don't understand do they
Need massive screen, lots of speakers, but 'er indoors moans about how it doesn't go with the soft furnishings etc. Also moans about it being too loud when watching a movie at a fairly sensible volume. So much easier when I was single, suppose there are other benefits

For now I'm leaving the big TV purchase as it might not be needed.

Really impressed with this OCUK 24" LCD. I checked the panel code and it is a proper PVA panel as found in a BenQ monitor that is twice the price. Looks ace at 1920*1200 just through VGA, will try DVI at home once I move.
The projector I have isn't posh - an Optoma DV10 cheapy thing with integral DVD player, cheaper than a typical TV. Works great for SD stuff, ambient light is the big issue though.
