Fan controller on pc?
Im going to up grade my fan and see the speed of the fan is 800-2500rpm.
First question how do you find wha speed its currently running at?
And if you get a fan controller how would you know how much cooling it would need?

I have one of these with 4 12mm acoustifans and an 80mm acoustifan.
Akasa AK FC-06BK Fan Controller Junior - Black
On lowest rpm my PC makes less noise than the Sky+ box. Still overclocked too

Uh oh....I can see this where this may end up...
Seriously, I reccomend these: http://www.crandallwc.com/img/earplugs.jpg
My Silverstone HTPC case is still a looooong way off 100% silent after:
2 new hard drives
5 new fans
2 Home made temperature adaptive fan controllers
1 new PSU
Passive cooled GPU
Lots of rubber and felt pads to de-couple drives etc.
All in all, alot quieter, but far off from 100% at a guess I'd say its about 25-28db @1m
Next step will have to involve a hack saw to cut out the 3.5" drive brackets so I can squeeze in two 5.25" accoustic drive enclosers without using the 5.25" bays that are already occupied by the DVD drives. Then think of some way to prevent the hard drives from overheating....

they are noisey as ****
YouTube - Vantec tornado fan scream
YouTube - Vantec Tornado
i run mine via an adapter to the overclocked cpu heatsink and control it with a modified coolermaster fan controller
whenever i am gaming i whack it up, simple browsing i turn it down, they do cool quite well mind
not sure how well it would last at 10krpm if it was 24/7 as i think they are only supposed to do about 6000 rpm as standard lol
to be honest i think you would go deaf before the fan died, quality bits of kit
edit, here is the specs, even the model number looks like a subaru turbo model number LOL
Model No.: Size: Amp: Speed: Air Flow: Measured Noise Level:
TD8034H 80mm 0.75A 5700RPM 84 CFM 70.4 dB

Which one?
I've been looking at the LC20 because I want my PC to look more at home in an AV rack and my screen/keyboard on a custom shelf.
Like I said above, my current coolermaster has 7 fans in total and when its on I can hear the SKY+ box first.

Lascala LC14M in silver. Very nice case, well, the anodized front bezel and LCD/IR display is.
The rest is just a bog standard desktop case. Nothing wrong with that, just no quick releases, or noise isolated drive bays. And the three internal fans supplied, although powerful high-rpm types are noisy, and buzz when operating at low speed using both voltage and PWM control. So they all had to be replaced.
Something the reviews I read seemed to have negated to mention.
Having said that, good airflow through the case though, so never had any temp problems.
I'm getting there, main issue is noise tranmitting through the chassis. I was under the impression that the case had better noise dampening than the average non-HTPC case. Obviously not.
I nearly had a LC20 as well
