Does anyone know how I can move multiple mailboxes (about 1000) from one exchange server to another as we now have an extra 2 servers to spread the load. At the moment someone is having to change each one individually. This is boring the hell out of us

Thanks

Andy

As long as they are both members of the same site then Mr Footlong's instructions are pretty spot on. You can't move mailboxes between containers or sites in Exchange 5.5 (unless you've got a 3rd party utility to do the job).

There is a Microsoft utility called EXMERGE that will export all the mailboxes to .PST files. You can then use the same utility to import the .PST files onto the new server.

One thing you will have to do is to create the mailboxes beforhand on the new server. You can do this by exporting the GAL to a .CSV file. You then need to edit the .CSV file to change the server property to match your new server name (search and replace). Once you have edited this file you can import on the new server and it will create the mailboxes for you.

One thing you need to remember is that if you use EXMERGE then you will lose single instance storage but with only a 1000 users this shouldnt be too much of a problem.

Hope this helps.

Perfect world, recipients or server recipients, highlight top one, shift click bottom one, control click to deselect any that you dont want to move, click tools, move mailbox and see......

If memory serves, I have done it this way before with Exchange 5.5 between servers ages ago....

Cheers,

Nick

P.S. Could be talking complete cod...
