PS3 vs XBOX 360
What's the opinion of the ScoobyNet community on these? My boy has a PS2 and wants a PS3 for Christmas. I hve to admit to not following the PS3 vs Xbox debates so if you were in his position which one would you go for? He has loads of PS2 games but I recall reading something saying a lot of them wouldn't be compatible? Also, I was told that not all of the latest games are available on the PS3 but they are on the XBox?
So, given the choice, which one is best?

Can tell you dont come in here much
Words like Nest ...Stirring ...Hornets come to mind
Anyway should be good for a few pages .....
But my advice would be ..
If your son is not interested in Blu Ray 360 is probably the best one for games as there is more choice and only some models of the PS3 will play older games ( think its the 40GB model that's not compatable ) Plus a lot will depend on what system his mates are using /prefer which comes in handy for swapping games playing online etc etc
Also doing a search on the subject wont give any conclusive answers as they argue like kids on the subject around here < but it makes great reading >

not having an xbox i cant comment on one, but i do have a ps3 and it is a very good all round home entertainment system (blue ray movies, divx movies, music, games) the on line gaming is free whereas afaik the xbox costs money?
never had any trouble with the ps3 (40g model) and i think its only the ps2 games that are not compatible ps1 games work ok(at least the ones ive used).
I have a wii aswell and that is a blast!!!
*waits for the xbox flamers to start*

For me I just wanted a games system to play games and wasn't too bothered about blu-ray etc.
Both have similar selcetion of games, so what won it for me was the fact that most of my mates had a 360, so I went for an xbox as I enjoy playing online, and it's great fun playing against your mates as opposed to strangers online...bragging right

Guys just a word of warning here, if you own COD4 and play online becareful because someone is sending a virus to all PS3's.The virus completly shuts your PS3 (all lights off) off and disables it.

I was all for buying a PS3, but the price put me off & I managed to find a good deal on the 360. Plus a lot of my friends have the 360 too so the online thing was a bonus.

If you are worried about your son spending too much time on the consol and feel he needs a good balance of entertainment and exercise then buy the 360, it'll be back at the factory being repaired on a frequent basis leaving plenty of time for other activities
That said being a tog you will appreciate build quality so go for the PS3, miles ahead in build quality, unlike that tatty piece of tupperware from Microsoft
Cheers

Woolies are allegedly dropping the prices, making the 60gb version cheaper than a wii

Breakdowns are not what they were (now within the norm for electronics products). The design flaws were fixed some time ago.
If you are worried about a child spending too much time on a console, just go and turn it off. It's called parental control...

If anyone is a fanboy that would be you (PS3 zealot distributing false information). If I was a 360 fanboy, I wouldn't own a PS3 now would I
Just setting the record straight from the overly biased PS3 opinions

Whatever your thoughts you only have to hold a ps3 in your hands to know its been put together properly, whereas the tupperware 360...

lol fanboy central again as usual. I've got 2 360's neither of which have failed so far and a PS3. The 360 has a huge catalogue of good games where as the PS3 might now have lots of games but only a few good ones that I don't already have on the 360, in my opinion. In terms of shiny graphics I now think the PS3 is shiniest, I downloaded Tiger Wood 09 and Soul Calibur demos and both looked marginally better on the PS3. However the download and install functions on the PS3 take forever.
If I was to have to choose just one console, it would be the 360 purely for the catalogue of games. However the PS3 having blu-ray is why I wanted one and also for the console specific games such as Gran Turismo.
The bottom line is they are both fantastic machines so ultimately get both at some point.

Havent they said there will be no GT5 until atleast 2010 and that Prologue is effectively going to be the next full Gran Turismo with the extra stuff they are adding along the way

Personally, I don't carry mine around much, or feel the need to fondle it to determine the build quality, so I don't care
