Question

I am running Win XP Pro, connected to a domain, and I am a domain Admin. I need to run a shared folder on my machine, but every time I do this, the other domain admins can connect to my C$ and **** my machine up (I'll admit to doing it to others ), How can i let them see my shared folder, but not access the C$??

Anyone any ideas?

Those shares are the admin shares. You can stop them by changing a registry entry. But I can't remember off hand where that entry is.

The key is AutoShareServer (server) and AutoShareWks (workstation) and needs set to 0 to stop the admin shares from getting created. Can't remember the exact path in the registry, but I'll check.

I think those include C$, D$, etc. and ADMIN$.

Why not remove DA from your local Admin group..

Just changing the reg is not good enough, the DA can connect to your reg remotely and reset the keys back to enable the Admin Shares..

Also ammend their boot.ini file to have maxmem=16 on the end, and then reboot their pc.

or under hklm\currentcontrolset\services\kbdclass
hklm\currentcontrolset\services\mouseclass
set startup to 4 to disable keyboard and mouse..

LOL, get a firewall on ur computer! install zonealarm, or on ur shared documents hide ur folders and change permissions!
Get zonealarm and their IP will appear then all u need to do is match the ip with ther computer name! When there away put drawing pins on their chair. Then watch then cry like a girl

I can't run a firewall inside the domain

I've sorted it now thanks to the article posted by OZZY.

Thanks
