Question

I had a Sky technician round about 6 months ago because of probs with my box,if you skip thru' the channels too fast the thing freezes then goes to ch.998.

The same thing is happening again and I cant remember how he told me to fix it.

The box needs to update its software,I think it was something like
disconnect incoming signal,
press select on box,
wait until screen goes blue......

Or something similar, can anybody help?Any Sky techies out there?

Cheers in advance,
steve

Mine does it aswell. - Have updated software but it still odes it occasionally.

The procedure is is power off (remove plug) hold "backup" power on and wait until the box says its downloading. Then walk away for a while and resist the temptation to fiddle. It'll come back when its ready

I'll give that a go. I did wonder what 'backup power' was, but I now realize you mean hold the 'Back Up' button down on the remote.

Yes, don't turn it off, and prey you don't have a power cut while its downloading.
I had a powercut in the middle of my update and Sky didn't want to know.
They tried to charge me £375 for a new box, but I found a company who can re PROM the unit for £50.
Bastids.

BTW: This is the procedure to 'force' an update. If you power off the unit to standby, when new software is available it should download without any forcing.

Wink

He can't have unplugged it, the new data for the Eprom comes from the satellite, so unplugging it means it wont work at all.
