I have to rebuild my machine soon and I need to know what operating system you think I should install:
Windows 98 SE
Windows 2000 Pro
Windows ME
Windows XP Pro
I was thinking about Win 2000. Win ME is a pile of horse crap (In my opinion), XP is too new so none of my games will run, and 98 SE is just soooo old now.
Let me know what you think, cheers

If your not fussed about a mickey mouse desktop then go for W2K. WinXP has very little over W2K in real terms..
If your want security and control then W2K/WinXP over any of the Win9x plaforms

I had nothing but problems with ME. I now run XP @ home, runs everything Ive thrown at it. Do you really need the PRO version as I believe it costs a bit moer for not a lot extra? I would expect Win2K to be a lot harder getting games to run?

Been running XP Pro for months (upgraded from Win2k Pro to Xp/2k dual boot) and its run everything Ive chucked at it and more. The boot up time is a quarter of the time it takes Win2K.

I think I'll go with Windows 2000 Pro for now and then move over to XP when its more stable.
Thanks everyone.
Super_si The way I duel Boot a machine is by fdisk'ing the drive (losing your data) in to 2 partitions and then installing the different operating systems on each drive. Its quite simple. Just remember to check the drive you are installign the OS on
Any problems drop me an E-mail

Super Si,
Your information is correct. Start with the windoz install. Then proceed with your Linux install.
It has been a while since i have done this install - it will be a piece of cake, the only to watch out for is the MBR option during the install.
Linux will prompt for a MBR (Master Boot Record) location. Make sure this is on HDA (the first hard drive), this will then create a dual boot MBR. This option might even be automated now.
Good luck

I have a machine with win xp pro, a machine with win 2000 pro and a machine with win 98 se.
The XP and 2000 machines have been trouble free - including games, dvds and internet.
