Hi Peebs,

I was in a forum on the web and I clicked on an advertising banner like the ones we have on here and Norton picked up the JS.Exception.Exploit virus infecting the file C:\WINDOWS\temporaryInternetFiles\content.IE5\RMT3 4DU2\seek[1].htm. This came up twice. Norton could not repair, quarantine or delete the file. Norton then gave me the option to not open the files and that the virus would not spread.

I then did a virus scan on my PC and it found that two files were infected. They were, C:\RECYCLED\NPROTECT\00005431.HTM and also C:\RECYCLED\NPROTECT\00005432.HTM It quarantined them and then I deleted them. I deleted them cos that is what the Symantec website advised on this virus.

Were these two files important? Did I need these files for anything?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Wrexy.

Oh dear

I have recently had the same problem and did exactly as you.

The problem I found was that it kept coming back.

I found there was a file that had downloaded itself into my internet download directory that was responsible. Unfortunately the only way I could get rid of it was to reinstall windows.

I'm sure there was a better way, but it did the trick for me.

Blimey, sounds a bit drastic re-installing windows
Just delete the file, clean the registry http://www.antivirus.com/vinfo/virus..._EXCEPTION.GEN

Make sure your AV is up to date, job done.

Cheers for the replies fellas.

Norton did all the work for me. It quarantined the files, after finding the virus and I deleted them. Also I have auto update enabled, so every 5 minutes, when I'm connected to the net, my antivirus software is being updated.

I was wondering if those two files that I deleted, (C:\RECYCLED\NPROTECT\00005431.HTM and C:\RECYCLED\NPROTECT\00005432.HTM) were important or not, cos I have no idea.
