Default XBOX 360HD query

My 360 is deciding to be an **** (got the RROD once then it stopped, failure to boot up sometimes, when it does boot up it freezes and the dashboard will not appear when the centre button is pressed etc etc).

Can the HD be used on an Arcade 360 if I decide to buy one as it does have DLC on it,will the DLC be playable on the new machine (I don't know if the DLC is linked to the specific 360)?

or is it easier to get it repaired?

is it simply easier to buy an Elite and get the transfer cable (where from though? MS i guess)

It will work, and you can use an MS web tool to transfer the licence of your DLC to the new console.

Umm no, you go on some web page, put your consoles serial numbers in, then it registers everything on the new console.

I used it ages ago.

I bought the Borderlands Zombie Island DLC a while back via XBOX.com and stupidly forgot all about it, the next thing i know, i am online in the office X360 console to chat with my mate and i am downloading the DLC onto the office console instead of my home one

So i need to use the tool again myself

Arcade models do have a HD connector, mine does anyway, got it free with a mobile phone contract and it's connected through HD, I believe the DLC is stored to the harddrive not the console.

James yep i was thinking of doing that it just seems that it's unclear as to what is stored to your gamertag and what is stored to your console (think Arcade games or whatever they are called now are stored to your specific console may be completelty wrong though).
I've got someone who can try and fix my old one but it's good to know that I've got options

IIRC you can still play your arcade games on your new console if you dont transfer the licence over, but only if signed into XBL

If the box is not signed into XBL then it does not let you (or it shouldn't)

Hence why everybody kicked off and they made the licence transfer tool
