Question Laptop for son who is off to Uni

Promised my lad a laptop to take to Univ with him.

Want to spend < £500.

Needs to have
- Built in web cam (so we can skype him to see what he's up to )
- wi-fi (not too fussed about Bluetooth)
- reasonably fast
- nice screen (as I'm sure he'll want to watch films etc on it)
- reasonble RAM (4gb)
- reasonble size hard drive 320gb+

other than that, that's it. Not really read up on which is the best CPU at the moment.

Not fussed about the brand, as long as their reputation is very good.

Got my daughter a Dell 2 years ago (17" inspiron - not sure spec), but she's been pleased with it.

Cheers, Mark.

Dell are pretty good value for something fairly standard. Look out for voucher codes + cashback too, can save a few ££

Found it on here: http://www.hotukdeals.com/search?act...eywords=laptop

This changes daily so keep looking as very good offers dont stick around for long, plus any incorrect pricing is a bonus, ie I bought a PS3 game for £1.89 the other day, its hould have been £18.90 - But i still got the game ;-)

TBH mate i wouldnt realy spend out £500 on a laptop, talking from experience and being a uni student myself u hardly use your laptop for work. its mainly used for music, movies like u mentioned etc. What i done was brought a contract phone and got a free laptop with it, i believe carphone warehouse still do these offers. i killed 2 birds with one stone :P, and now im in my third year and the laptop is working fine, in fact im using it now or go on ebay and find something better for less than £500, personally wouldnt buy a used laptop but its just a suggestion.

Just trying to help bud and save you some money, hope it helped thou

Yep,Asus is great maker, but little bit pricey.

If you really want Laptop which is good and fast,go for Dell 1564,1764(CPU i5,4Gb ram,500 GB HDD,GPU is just Intel HD,but is good for movies music, and some older games),or try PC World(free laptop with mobile broadband,i brought one via this and 25£ for laptop and mobile broadband its good value for money)

Great suggestions. I'll spend some time going through these, with my lad, over the weekend.
