Default crap wifi performance - how do I extend?

Guys, just switched to my old netgear router as the broadband performance is better than the pos that o2 sent- but wireless ain't that good upstairs.

Can't really move the router too much due to location of socket.

Can I add a repeater or a range extender of some kind? Maybe plug in upstairs?

Thanks.

I've tried lots of things to improve my wireless signal: higher gain aerials, repeaters etc.. with limited success.

By far the easiest solution is to use powerline adaptors, something like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003E521Q...SIN=B003E521QY

I already have a cat5 network in the house that goes back to a hub in the airing cupboard. How about swapping that for a wireless router with dhcp turned off? Would that work?

Yes it would. Just make sure that the SSID and the encryption key are set the same as the other wireless router and that the channel is different.

I use a netgear wireless print server, four port hub, two USB sockets and wireless of course.

I once saw an episode of The Gadget Show in which they put tin foil behind the router and bounced the signal back. Could try that?
