Question Wi-Fi Printers

OK, how do these things receive the print info from the LapTops?

I've looked at a Canon MX350 at £80 and it seems pretty good .... it comes with a Telephone Cable .... does this give me a clue as to how it operates?

I'm guessing it connectes to the Hub in some way - rather than picking up Wi-Fi signals via a built in Network Card?

Puzzled?

It's all done via pixie dust...

... or alternatively by reading the instructions

It connects to your wireless broadband router or access point and you basically print to it via it's IP address

MFD?

Multi Function Device?

So, when I thought I could place it wherever I want in the house - I can't ..... it needs to be close to the hub into which it is plugged?

I wanted it to be in the corner of the lounge ... wirelessly printing away! Disappointed now.

yup, if its Canon and has MX in the name, its a Fax.

Defo go with a Canon tho, best printers by far.

Avoid Lexmark and Epson like the plague, and alot of the new HP's have tiny ink carts in them.

I have a Canon MP560, can be picked up for around £80 on amazon, and its an excellent bit of kit. 3 in 1, single ink tech, wifi, standalone unit.

oh and i have the pleasures of working at Cartridge World, so hear people complaining about thier Epsons etc all day long!

Use the pixie dust (wifi) if you have wireless hub / access point.. or get your great grandchildren to sort it ..

You can have the printer anywhere that a wireless signal can reach, BUT if you want a fax it has to be plugged into a telephone line.

Of course!

That makes sense .... I've never seen the need to FAX other than at work, so, I can have the printer wherever I like?

You should leave a piece of chocolate out for the pixies. It works for fishing in Devon!

If your laptop can get a signal in the corner of the room, it is highly likely the printer will too, you will of course need to plug it in

Plug it in?

What? To the mains?

Doesn't it get the power from the Wi-Fi voltage?
