Default Which Laptops are good and which are the ones to Avoid!

Am after a Laptop folks! Desktop keeps playing up and am sick of Spending on it.

I know my way around one alittle but am No expert. Just know I want 3GB, 320 Hard Drive and Windows 7.

I have loads of Music and Films Photos etc. But also use it for work. They said they might go half n all if it's not too Expensive. Fingers crossed!

What a good one to get. Alot say Sony, buy some say HP. Got around £300-£400 to spend. Maybe a tad more if need be but not much. Was looking on Laptops Direct but there's hundreds on their. Using my Phone and it's hard work looking on here!

Cheers for any Help or Advice!

Perhaps one for the computing section?

I have had Dells laptops for 15 years with few problems. Sony also supposed to be good.

If work are going to pay half then personally I'd go for HP or a good spec'd Dell

Go for 4Gb RAM though and not 3

We use Dell's in work - but they're decent spec'd laptops for what we need them for.

Dell, Sony or Toshiba are the brands I'd consider.

For your price range - I'd probably go for one of these

I would get onto dell while the deals are still up and around while student are going back to uni... pick up a nice Inspiron for £399 with 3G ram and 320HD, then i would pick up a cheap external HD to store all your photo's on to keep the laptop running smoooth

if i had that price range i would probably get one of these:

I have had a few dells and yeah there not bad little machines... only problem i had where the chargers kept dying on me!

No issues thus far with my Dell laptop. Must have had it nearly three years. Only issue is Vista sucks, must get around to a Win7 upgrade and will probably install it to a new solid state hard drive while I'm at it

If you can't stretch to an Apple buy Dell. Keep it simple unless you want a new hobby.

My Samsung has been rock solid, the Dell has needed a replacement battery & screen invertor. Apart from that cant fault it.

I use Lenove/IBM Thinkpads, you pay a little more, but they absolutely rock solid in terms build and quality of construction. Plus their support is pretty good. OS wise, I'd stick with Windows 7 32bit, more stable is better supported in both hardware and software than 64bit, especially since you're spec'ing for 3GB ram.
