Battlefield 3 Beta
Anybody downloading it yet ?
Mine is 35% done
I had to install that EA origin service to download it though, not ideal, i would have preferred it on steam, if the game is not on steam by release, i will pick up a retail copy.

What planet you living on man?
https://www.scoobynet.com/computer-r...-bf3-demo.html
If you have an invidia card You'll need the latest 285.38 Nvidia Beta driver too.
As for the actual Beta it dosent feel like anything BF have done to date, it actually feels and looks more like MW, I only played it for a few minutes though as I couldent bind any of the keys to something I'm used too.
Good luck trying to get into a server as well!!

binding the keys is a big problem for me also (left-handed....) -- apart from that -- i am getting 'slaughtered' -- havent seen the 'enemy' yet, but they certainly can see me !!!

I cant get the PC version to run, i click a server, it joins, it then shows me the loading screen for the metro map, then it sounds like i am in game, i can hear sounds and such, but the screen stays black, then it crashes.

Just played this on the 360 and now cannot get back as it keeps losing contact with EA Online.
I have to say for all the hype I'm not as impressed as I was when I saw the myriad of trailers and teasers (which I guess were running on a decent spec PC).
Menus are unnecessarily cluttered, the ability to lie down should have been left out (imo)
The demo gave me the feeling I was just playing another version of Modern Warfare.

Had a quick crack last night and was less than impressed in most areas tbh. Seems very clunky. Ill play it whilst the beta stays online but at this rate my money is going to MW3.

Something I posted to another forum. Played it on PC.
I think I'd still class that as an Alpha. Or maybe it was a beta, but I cannot believe that Dice/EA are expecting everyone to go through the starting sequence. It's a mish mash of using Origin (which appears not to be used again), a web site for getting stats and server listing, and in game features themselves. Also it appears to load a system tray icon (Battlelog) that I am not entirely sure it what it's for.
But with a release date of 25th Oct they have less than a month to improve that side of things. Could it happen? Don't know.
Spent a long time simply trying to get into a game (find a server, find key bindings, look at gfx/sound settings etc), some of this you are actually in-game at the time. So your soldier is standing there while you review the settings.
As for the game? Well the map I played (underground station) was a bit too COD for my liking. I understand the desire to go up against COD, but one of the beautiful things about the BF series has always been the wide open battlefields. Anyway the detail was very good. Seemed to run ok at 1680/1050 on my rig (new GFX, but old Core 2 Quad @ 2.4GHz) so I was pleased with that.
Didn't particularly like the radar map, but I did like the level up and white noise sounds. So when in game, some good things, some poor (though that could be just the map layout).
Overall, I think they've lost my pre-order. I'll watch the BF3 news for what they plan to do during and after the beta (and before the launch). Lots of changes planned = a buy. Otherwise I may wait until after launch to see the reaction of players and reaction of Dice/EA.

Been playing this on PC - looks wise, it's very nice. Game play is good, the single map is a bit of a bind but it's a free beta. I can't bind keys & origin sucks *****. It should have been like Bad company 2 - you have to wait till you are in game before binding keys! Overall I am disappointed. This is not beta software it's almost Pre alpha! EA better pull their fingers out & sort the annoyances or they are going to loose a lot of customers.

Yeah it seems a weird single map to release on beta for a game series that is renowned for big maps and battles. I understand its not the finished & complete article but with a release date less than a month away I dont expect anything to be changed as surely by now they are already burning discs ready for shipping etc.
If they have tried to move in on the MW arena then a big mistake as its like David vs Goliath. If I was a PC player I think Id have more time for BF3 but as Im on the PS3 nowadays MW suits console format that much better.
Just annoying that MW3 release is a Tues - fri is much better as nice long weekend to get bedded in and rank up

Yup!
Got as far as the game running while viewing somebody else, clicked to enter the game, and then it crashed again.
I have the latest beta drivers as well
C2Q @ 3.5ghz
GTX 275 latest beta drivers.
Win 7 64.
4gb ram.
Should run ok enough to test it, what are the gfx settings at as default? i am wondering if somehow mine is a bit too high for the gfx card.
To be honest, BF3 is pissing me off as well.
1. i wanted it on steam like 95% of my games (approx 225 listed at the moment lol)
2. then i figured i would buy retail and add the shortcut to Steam (cant do this because.....)
3. fooking Origin, EA allows me to get into the PC beta by selling me Medal of Honor on Steam, my beta key comes from Steam, yet i need fooking Origin to play the game instead of Steam
4. making me install specific beta drivers to play a beta
5. and it still does not ****ing work.

lets also not forget that battlelog/browser/****e does not work in my native IE browser, so i open Origin (which makes the pc unresponsive for around 5 seconds wtf is it doing) to click on the beta game, which then uses an internet broswer (after i cut and paste the webpage into Chrome) to start the main game up.
WTF?!?
Dump this Origin stuff and let me click it from within Steam!

Hmm, just managed to get into a game!
By removing the specific beta drivers :/ only 3 people on the server and it was a stuttering lag fest lol!

Yup, it now works all the time, just had a 5 mins game before BF3 stopped working and had to close, gahh!
At least that seams like an error message that everybody else gets.
