Default iPhone 4 Repairs

I am just wondering how many iPhone 4 users on here have had problems with the Home button?

Mine only works around 20% of the time, I have done a little research and it appears to be the ribbon connecting the button to the circuit board that fails.

As the device is now 18 months old and is outside the warranty period and will be upgraded in around 2 months I don't really want to send it to Apple for a £120+ repair cost, can anyone recommend a repair agent who can repair at a reasonable cost?

I do have insurance on the device with my bank, but they charge a £100 excess per claim so if I can find a reputable repair agent who charges less then I am better off going down that route.

Please don't turn this into an Apple vs Android thread, there are plenty of those on here already; I know this is a common problem but it appears if I want to sort it then I have to pay.

There are loads of independent repair people, in fact I'm pretty sure there are two that post on here regularly. It's not a difficult repair if you know what you're doing so I'd hope it's a lot less than £100.

Yes they are sending me the iPhone 5 for evaluation purposes, I just have to go over to Cupertino to collect it.

Those are my thoughts as well, it shouldn't cost the earth or I may as well pay the early upgrade charge.

Hope you haven't cursed your phone now. Nothing is indestructible.

I have a 64gig iPhone 4s for sale, £650 if your share dealing is going well.

The part is less than £10 for the button connector. You will need a couple of tiny screwdrivers, one of them being a torx screwdriver. Would take an en experienced person around an hour. You will also need a new adhesive strip for the screen to keep it properly against the mid-frame.

Did mine the day before xmas eve

Just cost me £60 for screen and button fitted
Should be next to nothing for the home button alone

Thanks for all the info posted, but personally I don't have the patience for jobs like this so I will be sending it to Modifications for repair.

And having read the above instructions, I would say I am happy to leave it to someone else to do; I would in all honesty probably lose half the screws and break something or other.

always a risk i guess. I'm just a geek and love doing stuff like this. If it was still in warranty or insured then i def wouldn't. But now i know i will offer to do it for people i know for a small fee

Well Modifications repaired my iPhone 4 for me and I am very happy with the repair and service, I would recommend his services to anyone needing a repair done.

Very reasonably priced and good communication plus good advice, the problem turned out to be the charging ribbon which had a circuit break in the ribbon.
