Question Broadband queries.....

OK bit of background -

signed up on a punt to the Vodafone At Home broadband a few years back...... took the risk and it was brilliant.
8 meg unlimited, unthrottled internet for £25 (including free landline calls)

Then, Vodafone sell the service to Plus.net.......

And it hasn't exactly been plain sailing.
The main issue being throttling of bandwidth, even at totally unreasonable times!

Soooo, I'm pretty sure I want to move - Sky seem like a viable option.
Not interested in the expensive ISPs, plus I live in the middle of nowhere, to BT-based systems seem the only option at the moment.

Has anybody left Plusnet? I haven't signed any contracts with them as it was a rolling agreement from Vodafone (we were out of contract with them too)
I'm guessing that they may try and sting me for a leaving fee - need to find out though. EDIT - by the looks of it, I'll only get charged £25 if I cancel the broadband line - not if I've got a MAC key.

Any issues I should be aware of in general?

Dan

I think you've probably recognised there that Sky may not be a viable option as cheap Sky is only available where they have their own LLU kit installed. That usually excludes "in the middle of nowhere"

Personally I'm quite content with PlusNet as the throttling doesn't really affect me. Having said that when Sky make available their FTTC offering I will give it serious consideration.

well, apparently, LLU is available in my area

I've also learned that BT are upgrading my exchange this month. Will give Plusnet the benefit of the doubt.

But their days are numbered due to the throttling.

It's horses for courses and PlusNet are far from bad imo. If they were I sure for **** wouldn't still be with them.

I'm with them on a 80/20 FTTC service.... I have nothing to "complain" about, but I wouldn't mind more monthly bandwidth.

I'm not sure what "throttling" issues you have had, but there are facilities available (depending on your plan) to limit any throttling.

What are Plusnet throttling that you do not agree with? What tariff are you on?

I can, otherwise most ISPs would go bankrupt and/or the service for most would be unusable.

No they don't

If you are lucky enough to get Cable from Virgin, it is still aggressively traffic shaped.

For normal broadband, Virgin cap some of there products just like anyone else..
