apple tablet versus android?
This isn't a **** take thread as its a serious enquiry on which I should buy my missus for xmas. I'm tempted to buy her the ipad as she is used to the ipod but then there is the tegra 3 android tablets.
She doesn't need all the whistles and bells that come with each tablet as she will only ever use either for internet and the occasional game and she has a quality laptop so the tablet is only for occasional use ie pubs. The games she plays are Farmville, angry birds and logo quiz so none need mega power.
I'm buying her tablet in the USA at xmas so both are much cheaper than here, but for her pathetic use which would be the best value ?
I have a mountain of paid for ipad apps which would all go on hers if I bought her one similar with android apps
Which would be better for her to use?

Honestly? Any of them would do.
Just go for whichever gives you the best deal.
By the time you are buying, the new Mini iPad will be out, as will the MS Surface tablets.
Cheers

I have been told Farmville and other Zynga games don't work on an iPad but that could have been resolved by now you will need to ask someone with an iPad who plays Farmville.

Out of the box, they don't work on the Galaxy tab2 either,
But a bit of googling and they are up and running....
one happy Mrs
That said she now thinks the Nexus 7 i picked up is possibly what sh would have had, and not the tab lol

Galaxy Nexus 7 is a brilliant piece of kit, and it's even better with the OS upgrade it has just had so that now you can use the home screen in landscape mode plus loads of other fixes. I know it seems a little petty but it's a small thing to make it easier to use.

If you're looking for a 7" sized device, wait until the iPad Mini is in stores so you can compare it to it's larger brother, plus compare both to other 7" tablets.
As others have said, it's really down to what you want the device for and, being honest, wether you want to be locked into Apple's way of doing things. Some don't mind, others do.

I just found out that the nexus 7 32gb is due out shortly so I would get that best bang for buck imo

Been reading some stuff today saying that the real battle now will be MS vs Apple, and despite the in roads Android has made in to the tablet market, it will fail against MS.
Also read this which was quite interesting.
OK, I'm sure someone could post a similar list up the other way, but alot of that functionality does annoy the heck out of me on my iPad!
Interesting times.

Can you open multiple windows on android tablet?
It'll certainly be a breath fresh air to see apple given some competition, maybe even their prices will become more realistic, you never know

I personally love the Nexus 7, my wife has one and i got my sister one for her 16th and she never puts it down!
Me and my wife find the 10" tablets just to big for daily use where as the 7" nexus was perfect to use 1 handed to read books on etc without your arms getting tired!
IOS vs Android is an old debate and some people will never let it lie, i've been an iphone user for 3 years and have just switched to Android and love it however i can see the draw to IOS and woulnd't rule out another IOS device in the future.

I've had a Nexus 7 16GB since the first day they were released, it is far more comfortable in hand than the iPad 2 I owned when I bought the Nexus 7.
In fact I was so impressed with the Nexus 7 and what it can do in comparison to the relatively locked iPad that I sold the iPad.
I really do think that the pricing of the iPad mini is too expensive and too late (for me anyway), I have no doubt that it will sell well but as I see it the Nexus 7 32GB is pretty much unbeatable in terms of VFM and what it can do.

New version of Android now has multiuser support, and a new camera feature. Android has had panoramic camera for ages, but now has photoshpere, nice.

Word of warning with the Nexus 7, they are having major issues powering on, including mine. If you power off, you have to do a manual reboot with a 10 sec or longer button press. Its affecting loads of Nexus7's and seems to be a hardware issue rather than software. I shall be returning mine this week and I don't think exchanging it for another is worth doing as they all seem to develop this problem. Will wait for an updated version.

I personally think they are a great piece of tech despite what some users think, I have both Android and Apple products and they are both great in their own ways.
What I do prefer though on Android is the ability to personalise the tablet more to your own setup and preferences.

Just wait for the Nexus 10, the 32gb wifi version is cheaper than the latest ipad, the nexus 10 has a faster processor (A15 Coretex dual core @ 1.7ghz) and a far better screen resolution (2560x1600 + 16:9 aspect ratio).
Less than £380 quid for this 32gb version, 16gb is £319 and its definately worth looking at (release is 13th Nov by the sounds).
