i remember the ps3 fanboys saying it's the best machine and so much more powerful than the xbox and in real world the developers hated the ps3 and it was never used to it's "amazing" potential

I am watching. Its looking like the PS3 and the Xbox will be fairly similar I think in terms of specs.
Its already looking like the specs are fairly crappy on both - which is a major downer.

Major shocks,if will be implemented proposed Blocking playing used games that's will be major shock for most gamers/peoples
Features are good, but they're mainly targeted on the Social and real in-game capturing

I was an Xbox fan, had the original, worked fine, moved to 360, blew up just before warranty. Microsoft wanted me to pack it up and arrange delivery.
**** that. I bought a brand new (then) PS3 80GB, its never missed a beat and its been doing long stints of play (especially with GT5, Skyrim, BF3, COD4 and the Resistance Trilogy).
PS4 looks pretty feckin awesome.

Have all 3 of the consoles (Wii, Xbox360 & PS3). Not really a fanboy of any, but this is how I rate the current crop:
PS3 = Nice all-rounder, but expensive for what it is. pain in the backside updates from Sony when your online (especially system updates and GT5 ones as well), once up and running games run brilliantly, nice 7.1 Dobly sound and 3D ability on games look fantastic. But because of the slow downloads, hardly use the console. Also no talk to mates online feature as standard, therefore okay for single gaming.
Wii = Cheap enough, intuitive controller let down by a lack of graphical content, but games fun. Great for family and friends who come around to play games such as Mario Kart and board games like Monopoly. No real talk to mates when online gaming. Only worth online gaming is with Mario Kart, but found lost connections due to wi-fi connectivity.
XBox360 = Cheapish enough to buy, graphics pretty much on par with the PS3. But was unreliable until late on with the new shiny black case one (Went through 2 of the older models with red rings of death syndrome), system updates are quicker than the Sony. Talk to mates online with out of the box and easy enough interface. Downside is the £30 odd gold membership to do so. But because of the ease of use and the out of the box talk and play online gaming as well as the cheaper price of the console, I have more friends that have this console so no brainer that this gets used the most.
So coming back to the PS4, I hope they have taken a leaf out of Microsofts console and now look to implement the same. But it will come down to price, games available and uptake if it will take off. The rumoured Xbox 720? will have similary specs to the PS4 but using INTEL and NVidia, so basically another PC console in diguise. If you look at PCs on the market today they both run the same x86/x64 architecture, so wouldnt be surprised if someone doesn't come out with some interesting mods/hacks here in the future

I've given up with consoles, lack of backward compatability, can't play second hand games, and silly purchase price for games has put me right off. £50 for a single game

Been playing it loads, it's great.
Also playing F1 for Ps1 on it too. Looks crap, good fun. Perhaps I'm just nostalgic.

Can't say I've seen any issues at all with online gaming for the PS3. Smooth connection, very rarely any problems with the server and none of the stupid avatar rubbish that's on Xbox, or at least when I last looked at an xbox. Simple, straight forward and effective.

Agree with downloads though, but with modern broadband, it's not really an issue. When I upgrade to fibre, it will be a total non-issue.

I watched a bit of the launch and thought that Drive Club looked nice, but the other stuff didn't really interest me.
The stuff about the game switching from console to phone just reminded me of the EE adverts with Kevin Bacon talking about the same sort of thing.
I'll wait to see what MS can produce.
